About Tip Calculator
Tip Calculator is a free online tool that helps you quickly work out how much to tip at a restaurant, cafe, or anywhere else service is provided. Enter your bill, choose a tip percentage, and split the total between everyone at the table — instantly, with no sign-up required.
Why we built this
Doing tip math by hand at the table is easy to get wrong, especially when a group is splitting the bill. We built Tip Calculator to be fast, accurate, and simple enough to use one-handed on a phone, without ads or clutter getting in the way.
How it works
The calculator runs entirely in your browser using straightforward math: your tip amount is your bill multiplied by the tip percentage, your total is the bill plus the tip, and per-person amounts are simply those totals divided by the number of people sharing. Once the page loads, it works completely offline.
Your privacy
We don't ask for your bill details, and nothing you type into the calculator is sent anywhere. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How we research and fact-check this site
Every percentage and dollar figure on this site is checked against a named, citable source rather than presented as an unqualified rule. Where a page states a wage, survey result or industry standard, you'll find that source linked at the bottom of the page — among them the Emily Post Institute's General Tipping Guide, the U.S. Department of Labor's tipped-employee fact sheet, Pew Research Center's tipping survey, the American Hotel & Lodging Association, and the United States Bartenders' Guild.
Where genuine disagreement exists between sources — the salon-owner tipping question, for instance — the page sets out both positions rather than picking one and calling it settled. Pages are dated and marked "current as of" the month they were last checked; tipping conventions shift over time, and a stale percentage is worse than none.
